Re: Which butterflies are you most looking forward to seeing

I would agree with all that and I am particularly hoping to see a Large Tortoiseshell in March as I did not see one here last year despite a lot of attempts.

This species must give one of the most colourful displays on this thread. My pic was taken on the 23rd March at Woodhouse Copse while looking out for the elusive Large T.

Re: November 2011 sightings

A beautiful day on the Isle of Wight today and still another Red Admiral to be seen in my back garden enjoying the sun.
Not the individual from a few days ago but one in much better condition and hopefully a must for next season.

Re: Grayling - Favourite Photo of 2011

This was a first visit for me to Bleak Down IOW this summer,30th July,to see Grayling.Numbers seemed to be good and there was quite a bit of activity with this species.
This pic is my favourite because I was lucky enough to get an egg laying shot.

Re: Green Hairstreak - Favourite Photo of 2011

There is a spot in the West Wight where we are always sure to see this lovely little butterfly. This pic was taken on the 12th April and is perhaps my best effort. Talking about marks,I noticed when viewing the shot that 'bodies' had got into the camera as can be seen.It cost me a bit to have it clea...

Re: Duke of Burgundy - Favourite Photo of 2011

Just like Goldie M a first sight of this lovely butterfly for me.
Sadly it seems to have disappeared from the Isle of Wight. Therefore a trip to Butser Hill on the 13th May.After a search we came across several at the foot if the Hill.
Hope eternal for this butterfly to be rediscovered on the Island.

Re: Grizzled Skipper - Favourite Photo of 2011

This pic taken in mid April is one of my favourites because I nearly managed to get the underside in focus.
A handsome skipper like the Dingy which shares the same habitat here.
