Wow, thanks, Vince. That was quick. He only stayed for a few seconds then was gone - so quick I couldn't follow to get any better shots. It's the first one I've ever photographed so I'm chuffed to bits he came to say hello.
Thanks for helping to identify him.

It's a Skipper (I think!) but which one?
This lovely beast landed on a flower right next to me as I was taking photos of a Green-veined White last week here in Cornwall, and I've just spent hours searching the internet to try and identify which day-flying moth it is. Having given up as nothing seemed anything like it I was idling around th...

Re: Anybody any good with damselflies??
Thanks again, Jon. I reckon it's about time I got some better reference books. I've got "Insects of Cornwall and thr Isles of Scilly" by Steve Jones, which is an excellent starting point but something that goes into further detail about each species would certainly be worthwhile. I've just...

Re: Anybody any good with damselflies??
Hi Jon. Many thanks for that. I had been thrown by the extra volume of the black markings on each section and the extra length of the wings (by comparison to previous images I've taken of the Common Blue and those I've Google Image'd) so I appreciate your input and will treat this one as a female Co...

Anybody any good with damselflies??
I spotted this beauty in my garden here in Cornwall and originally thought it was just a Common Blue but the black markings on each section don't really fit, nor does the length of the wing. Trying to identify it, it doesn't seem to be a Southern or an Irish so I'm a bit stuck. Any ideas? It spent m...

Re: Not happy with my own identification of a couple
The Wall Brown is said to be quite widespread here in Cornwall so I'll keep my eyes peeled and if I manage to get an image of one I'll let the forum know. You've set me a challenge now, lol. I just hope I can live up to it.

Re: Not happy with my own identification of a couple
Wow, thanks for the quick reply. Just shows my advancing years are inversely proportional to my identification skills, lol. I've already got a couple of images of the underside of a Speckled Wood from a couple of years ago but still failed to spot the similarity. Thanks too for confirming the Meadow...

Not happy with my own identification of a couple
In my new and growing collection of butterfly images, there are a couple I took this week where I'm not entirely happy with my own amateur attempts at identifying them. I THINK they are a Meadow Brown and a Wall Brown but they don't quite match the images here or in the books. Any advise or thoughts...
