Re: Holiday to Spain part 2a

Five species including a Cloudy post Christmas is a great haul, Not bad .. certainly more than i was expecting :) I'm wondering which species you're keeping in reserve :D  I'll be playing my joker later on in the report  I think the yellow flower is a species of oxalis, probably oxal...

Holiday to Spain part 2a

From part 1: - “Something needed to change” The Change came the next morning … clear blue skies and heat already starting to build up like a warm summer’s day in July :D . On Sunday night on our way to the “Safari restaurant” we’d passed rows of Lanterna hedges near the tennis courts, that were in f...

Re: Holiday to Spain part 1

Alright matsukaze. :) I've a lot of report for a very few butterflies … certainly not a dozen species … but I won't pre-empt it: - you'll just have to read it (or skim through for the pictures  ) I know what you mean about driving to Ronda because that's what I did back in 2007. A challenging ...

Re: Wurzel

Excellent report on the Whites Wurzel :D . I have to say that for me too that 2015 wasn't such a good year for the Green-veined White and even worse for was the Orange-tip with only a solitary female photographed :o . I think your OT pictures are very good and you have them on Cuckooflower too :mrgr...

Holiday to Spain part 1

Dear UKB’ers You may be aware that this is my third “holiday posting” from a holiday abroad in 2015. Believe me I’m not made of money but because we were unable to get a booking with Club-la Costa for the summer period for 2016, our only option was to take what was available (use your (paid up) poin...

Re: Holiday to Tenerife part 1

Thanks JKT. I reckon you're right on this :D . I should've had some idea as to narrow it down  I have an interest in moths which includes the 'micros' but I haven't as yet come across any of the Psychidae bagworm family (to which Amicta cabrerai belongs) in the UK. I have to say the cases the ...

Re: Wurzel

A rested Hummingbird Hawk-moth :o Also suffering from heat-stroke I suspect  That’s at least two great shots you’ve got of this species in that uncommon settled pose (East Blean I seem to remember   ) Nice photo of the cloudie :) . Any further views on whether it’s the alfacarien...

Re: Holiday to Tenerife Part 2 (final)

I will be keeping an eye open for your report of course. So long you don't mind seeing lots of scenery pictures  . Seriously I pleased to see there is stuff about. Perhaps I'll get a chance for a confirmatory sighting of Southern Small white. it also looks like Lang's Short tailed Blue is in ...

Re: Holiday to Tenerife Part 2 (final)

Roll-on the New Year and let's get winter over and done with.Cheers, Chris Winter hasn't started here yet (in SE England anyway) and I'm hoping it will hold off for a couple of weeks at least for Southern Spain. Am I likely to see butterflies from end of Dec to beginning of Jan in Andalusia :? howe...

Re: Holiday to Tenerife Part 2 (final)

Glad you got to see a Monarch, Phil. That must have been some compensation for the 'family duties' you were obliged to participate in? :) Yes David. It was good to see Monarchs (this time at the 11th hour) and get my pictures at the same place as in 2014 :D . WRT obligatory family duties: - Holiday...

Holiday to Tenerife Part 2 (final)

My other half made it clear that this year she would not be interested in another bus tour around La Gomera  so I had to come to terms with missing the 'butterfly oasis' at the stop-off or Garajonay national Park. However my insistence of going back up to Canadas del Teide (Teide National Par...

Re: Holiday to Tenerife part 1

Looking forward to part 2 after some great shots of Bath Whites and LTBs :D  Thanks Wurzel :) . Butterflies were a bit thin on the ground this time around so I’ve had to pad the report out with some island scenery. It may be a distant shot, Phil, but you can clearly see the white streak on...

Holiday to Tenerife part 1

Some of you reading this may be aware that before my family holiday to France we took a week's holiday to Tenerife in May. You may also know that I have posted findings of my past trips to Tenerife in 2011 and the last one in 2014 coming in 6 instalments. Although there were some holiday highlights ...

Re: Winter Get-together 2015

A thoroughly great afternoon as always, although the time seems to go too quickly. Thanks to dilettante for the lift to Shawford station. Saved my energies for the sobering two mile trek home from Woking station (too tight to pay for a taxi) . Thanks for organising the event again Susie. Hopef...
